President Donald Trump on Saturday said the stock market hit an "all-time high" this week despite continued coverage of ties between Russia and his presidential campaign, which he dismissed as a “hoax story!”
"Stock Market hit another all-time high yesterday – despite the Russian hoax story!" the president wrote on Twitter Saturday afternoon in a series of posts.
Both S&P and the Dow Jones reached closing records on Friday, withstanding reports of Russia’s involvement in the 2016 election as it awaited the start of quarterly earnings reports being released.
The president also praised the latest round of monthly job numbers, which he said “are starting to look very good.” The Labor Department reported that in June that the economy had added 222,000 jobs, up from 152,000 in May and the previous estimate of 138,000. The numbers put the average monthly job growth in line with the job creation under President Barack Obama’s full final year in office in 2016.
This week, reports of Donald Trump Jr. meeting with a Kremlin-linked lawyer in June 2016 to get information on Hillary Clinton stirred controversy for the White House.
Trump is currently at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, where the U.S. Women’s Open, the nation’s top women’s golf tournament, is being hosted. The president attended the tournament on Friday and announced his plans to attend Saturday as well on Twitter.
