Capitol Police arrested a woman Friday after she allegedly tried to bring a loaded handgun into a House office building.
Kimberly Barber, 34, was arrested after police found the gun during a routine security screening. The gun was found in of one of two suitcases as Barber tried to enter the northwest door of the Cannon Office Building.
Barber was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.
Lawmakers were still in the Capitol Friday, finishing up the last day of legislative work in the House before August recess. The arrest wasn’t reported by Capitol Police until Wednesday as part of a weekly incident summary.
